For over 20 years, Friends of Historic Preservation has operated the Salvage Barn, a warehouse that preserves historic architectural items and keeps priceless materials out of the landfill. It serves as a source for homeowners to find historically appropriate and ecologically friendly parts. All inventory is donated, most of which is salvaged by our team of volunteers from homes slated for demolition in the Johnson County area. In 2013, it diverted more than 80 tons of material from the landfill!
The Salvage Barn maintains a Tool Library, accessible to FHP members, and offers workshops throughout the year that are free and open to the public. To learn more, visit www.salvagebarn.org.
